Fulani herdsmen kill one, injure others in Agogo; set village ablaze

Seven armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed one and injured several others at Abrewanko a farming community in Asante Akyem Municipality of the Ashanti Region, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

According to the reports gathered by this portal, the armed men also set the entire village on fire after shooting two people in the community over what is yet to be established.

One of those who sustained gunshot wounds died on the spot while the other victim has been rushed to Agogo government hospital for treatment, MyNewsGh.com confirmed from police sources.

The sad incident occurred Saturday February 16, 2019 at about 3pm which has rendered hundreds of the residents of the Abrewanko community homeless with calls for support from the National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO)

In a telephone interview with a resident in the community, he explained to MyNewsGh.com that the herdmen stormed the community with guns and other deadly weapons and asked they all vacate the village or they will kill all of them.

The two who sustained the wounds tried facing them but were shot according to the account of the resident which saw most of them fleeing the village for fear of their lives but this did not stop the miscreants from torching houses

Agogo Municipal Police Commander, DSP James Ameka who confirmed the sad incident to MyNewsGh.com revealed that 5 people sustained various degrees of injuries after the incident.

According DSP James Ameka, two other persons have gone missing and their whereabouts unknown suspecting they may have been killed and their bodies dumped elsewhere.

He revealed that herdsmen looted properties belonging to the people in the community including motorbikes adding that situation has put fear and panic in the people within community and as a result they are living in fear.

“After the incident, I went to the community with my men including the DCE Hon Oti Boateng. We did not meet the herdsmen. The left the community after their actions. Investigation is ongoing” he disclosed to MyNewsGh.com urging the residents to have faith in the police saying the police is ready to protect them.

Meanwhile a combined team of armed police and military personnel have been deployed to the community to ward off the further attacks.
