Funerals suspended in Ga State on April 25

Accra, April 16, GNA - The Ga State announced on Thursday that funerals would be suspended in the Ga Traditional Area on Saturday, April 25, as remembrance final obsequies are held for all departed rulers of the various divisions.

A statement released by the Registrar, Ga Traditional Council, said the event at the Ga Mantse's Palace would "memorialise chiefs who reigned within the past quarter of a century".

The divisions include Ngleshie, Sempe, Akumajay, Asere, Otublohum, Aboba and Gbese. The rest are Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Tema, as well as their sub-divisions.

"Tradition demands that on such celebrations of rite, no burial or other observations of mourning should take place within the Ga State. "In consequence, on April 25, 2009, no mourning, memorial service, burials or other forms of funeral should be observed within the Ga Traditional Area," it said.

The statement asked all traditional families, royals and rulers to participate in honouring departed monarchs, royals and rulers. It said the event would take off on Friday evening with wake-keeping and climax on Saturday with funeral rites. The traditional dress code is red.
