Sekondi, July 19, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Monday remanded Ahmed Fuseini, 29, unemployed, in prison custody for allegedly defrauding by false pretence.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on August 11, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Philip Obeng told the court that, about three months ago, the accused defrauded Jennifer Cudjoe, the complainant, who is a teacher of her Siemens mobile phone valued at 1.3 million cedis and a cash of 99,000 cedis at Bankyease, near Takoradi.

He said the accused pretended to be a Ghanaian resident in Cote d'Ivoire and in possession of a quantity of diamonds and was looking for one Owusu, a diamond dealer resident in the area to buy it.

Sergeant Obeng said the accused told the complainant that he had a motor accident on the way to the country and had nothing on him. He said the accused managed to convince the complainant to exchange a piece of diamond with her mobile phone and gave him 99,000 cedis to enable him to visit his sick mother at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital. Sergeant Obeng said the accused gave the complainant a black polythene bag and asked her not to open it until an hour later. He said when the complainant opened the bag, she found a pebble and wrapped papers. Sergeant Obeng said at 0730 hours on July 14, this year, while going to school, the complainant met the accused, who tried to use his old tricks to defraud her again.

He said the complainant raised an alarm and the accused was arrested and handed over to the Police.
