GAF holds mission accomplishment parade for Army Engineer Reconstruction Team

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a mission accomplishment parade for the Army Engineer Reconstruction Team (ERT) Company 1 (COY 1) at the 48 Engineers Parade Square, Wajir Barracks, Teshie on Tuesday 17 March 2026.

The 54-member engineering contingent was deployed to Jamaica on Tuesday 16 December 2025 in response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The Company was officially welcomed from Jamaica by the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency (HE) John Dramani Mahama.

In his address, the President commended the Contingent for their professionalism, discipline and dedication that led to the successful execution of their task.

He added that the deployment was undertaken as part of Ghana’s commitment to international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

John Dramani Mahama noted that the deployment of ERT COY 1 further strengthened bilateral cooperation between Ghana, Jamaica and other Caribbean countries.

During the parade, the C-in-C presented a citation to the Contingent in recognition of their outstanding service and successful accomplishment of their mission which significantly contributed to the recovery process and improved the living conditions of many affected parishes in Jamaica.

He congratulated the Officer Commanding ERT COY 1, Colonel Emmanuel Asia for his exemplary leadership which reflected the highest standard of professionalism of GAF.

The 90-day mission restored houses in the Saint Elizabeth Parish of Jamaica, specifically in Middle Quarters, Black River, Thorton and other adjourning cities.

Present at the mission accomplishment parade were the Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Service Chiefs, Senior Officers of the Armed Forces, Families of the contributing troops and pupils drawn from some Wajir Barracks cluster of schools.
