The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has thanked the nine Supreme Court judges for reaching a decision in the historic election petition case that came before them.
It congratulated President Mahama on being validated by the Supreme Court as a winner of the 2012 elections.
A press statement issued by GBA on Friday, also congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo for using due process to air his grievances in the 2012 presidential election.
“In all matters of adjudication, invariably one side wins. In this particular case, the system has been tested, it is a healthy exercise for the democratic process which the framers of our constitution have laid down,” it said.
The statement said the GBA believes that there is a corporate Ghana and the 24 million Ghanaians are all shareholders adding that the success in the governmental processes inures to the benefit of all Ghanaians.
It said “any disruption affects all Ghanaians. It is therefore in the interest of all Ghanaians especially those who do not agree with the reasoning of the judges to accept the verdict so that we can move on in resolving important national issues such as the economy, education, corruption, agriculture and the judicious use of our resources for the benefit of all”.
The statement said GBA would avail itself at all times, ready to assist in the development of the country, “we again call upon the political parties, on the chiefs and elders, on churches and all other religious bodies and governance think tanks to work harder so that we shall continue to be a beacon of hope for Africa”.
