Workers at the nation?s premier television and radio station, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), on Wednesday, held a peaceful demonstration to register their deep concern about the insensitive and unpleasant manner their Director-General, Ms Eva Lokko, is steering the affairs of the organisation.
Wearing red bands, the workers, together with their union leader, converged in front of the GBC administration block, where they presented their resolution, and vented their anger against the management under Eva Lokko whom they claim, has no respect for the Collective Bargaining Agreement of the corporation.
Mention certain problems they are encountering at GBC, Mr. Nathaniel Okine, divisional Union Chairman of GBC Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) told the press that the current DG has completely neglected the welfare of the workers to the extent of withdrawing all their little benefits, which have dampened the worker?s morale. He pointed out that loans for car insurance, have, for instance been stopped, including even refreshments that the night workers enjoyed.
According to Mr. Okine, even since Eva Lokko assumed office as the Director-General, she has stopped the salaries of a section of the Finance Division at GBC from deductions and payments of all insurance policies to the various organisations.
Most of the workers that Daily Guide interviewed demanded the immediate resignation of Ms Eva Lokko. They alleged that since she took office two years ago, she has brought nothing, but bad management to GBC. According to them, since the Director-General came from the United Nations, she must be made to return, with immediate effect.
Further investigations by Daily Guide showed that there is only one printer and one photocopier machine at the TV room, which was broken down. Other findings by Daily Guide revealed that Ms Eva Lokko has to herself a Pajero vehicle and a saloon car, while the reporters are crying for a vehicle.
