Prison inmates have appealed to society not to neglect them during and after their prison term.

According to them, this leaves them with a feeling of rejection and hopelessness.

This came up when the GBC Ladies Association of Twin City Radio visited and donated items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to inmates at the Sekondi Female Prisons at Sekondi in Western Region as part of activities to mark International Women’s Day.

According to some of the inmates, family members refuse to visit or acknowledge them, due to the fact that they are seen as bad nuts who have tarnished their family’s image.

The representative of the Association, Linda Akoto advised the inmates not to think they are hopeless but to pray for strength to go through their reformation process successfully and peacefully in order to become productive members of the society on their release.

She said it is necessary for the inmates to be visited from once in a while to remind them of their importance to society, inspite of where they find themselves.

Speaking to some members of the association they said, the visit has opened their eyes to certain factors that are seen as not serious and irrelevant but can end you in prison adding that the visit has taught them to be cautious in their day to day dealings.
