GBC now under Ministry of Media Relations

Parliament was last Friday, informed that the state-owned Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has now been placed under the direction of the Ministry of Media Relations.

Majority Leader, and Minister for Government Business, John Henry Mensah MP, Sunyani West told an obviously confused Parliament, when the Minority re-directed a question on frequent interruptions in TV transmission in the Volta Region and parts of the Eastern Region.

Ms. Elizabeth Ohene, the Minister in charge of Media Relations has gone to the House to answer the question.

This, the Minority protested saying it was not appropriate since there is a substantive Minister for Communications.

Minority Chief Whip, Doe Adjaho, MP, Avenor, was the first to raise an objection to the presentation by Ms. Ohene.

When, the First Deputy Speaker, Freddie Blay, MP, Elembele refereed the matter to the questioner, Hon. Akua Dansua, NDC MP for North Dayi, she opted to consult with the leadership of the Minority on the appropriateness of allowing the Ms. Ohene to answer the question.

The Media Relations Minister was thereupon made to discontinue her submissions until the Minority arrived at a decision on the matter.
