GCAA Moves On Theft & Assault At KIA

Thu, 6 Feb 2003 Source: INC NEWS

Management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority are deliberating on their next line of action following sustained attacks on visitors who use the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport.

And it seems likely that the porters popularly called “goro boys” will be banned from operating at the customs checkpoint at the arrival hall.

The Civil Aviation has already stopped commercial drivers from operating at the arrival terminal in an attempt to clamp down on the activities of armed robbery gangs operating at the airport.

A source at the GCAA told INC News that the decision to get rid of porters from the arrival hall stems from suspicion that they may be feeding an armed robbery syndicate with information on travelers since they are the only ones who interact with them.

The extra security precautions come in the wake of media reports that two security officers at the GCAA had been arrested for their role in an armed robbery syndicate.
