GCAP calls on government to fight poverty

Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP Ghana) and Abibimann Foundation have called on the government to be more radical this year in efforts to end poverty, inequality and climate change.

A statement issued by the group said since 2015 marks the end of set targets of the millennium development goals to end poverty, it offers a great opportunity to demand equality for all citizens.

“In 2015 we want a world where our government will scale up efforts and increase the momentum in reducing poverty reduction, fight against climate, and inequality. We demand good governance, transparency and accountability by the government of Ghana,” the statement said.

The two groups are also demanding that government guarantee food sovereignty by investing in small-scale sustainable agriculture and enacting and implementing laws that protect women and children.

GCAP and Abibimann Foundation also revealed that they would embark on a campaign dubbed: “Action/2015,” which would mobilise their partners and other groups to raise the voice of the marginalised and to pressure decision makers into addressing the challenges of poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change.

The Action/2015 campaign is expected to drive transformational change, deepen democracy and human rights and also ensure that Ghana makes good agreements in all international negotiations scheduled for the calendar year.

GCAP is an international alliance of coalitions aimed at ending poverty across the globe.
