GCB Bank hands over renovated Ussher Polyclinic and Surgical Theatre

GCB Bank has handed over the renovated Ussher Polyclinic and a newly constructed surgical Theatre in James Town, Accra, to the Ghana Health Services.

Funding was provided by the Bank in partnership with the Rebecca Foundation and facilities provided for the Polyclinic include construction of a modern surgical theatre, a fully equipped intensive care unit, convenient waiting areas for client and staff areas, as well as the expansion of existing wards to increase bed capacity for the benefit of the community and its environs.

The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo who was the guest of honour at the ceremony unveiled the plaques for the formal opening of the polyclinic and the theatre.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Managing Director of GCB Bank Ltd, Mr. Anselm Ray Sowah, stated that there was a strong correlation between good health, productivity, wealth creation and economic development.

“As Ghana’s first indigenous bank, GCB Bank has the responsibility to help in driving Ghana’s development agenda to create a prosperous society for all,” he said.

“It is as a result of this orientation that GCB Bank has invested substantially in the health sector over the years and the renovation of the Ussher Polyclinic and the construction of a state-of-the-art surgical theatre for the Polyclinic is no exception,” he explained.

The MD of GCB Bank also indicated GCB’s unflinching support to Ghana’s efforts at realizing the Sustainable Development Goals on Health by 2030 and advised Ghanaians to be proactive in seeking healthcare and adopt healthy lifestyles which maximize productivity.

Mrs Akufo-Addo on her part, urged corporate institutions and NGOs to emulate the example of GCB Bank and partner government to deliver the best of social amenities to the Ghanaians.

The new Ussher Polyclinic is expected to cater for a residential population of about 143,000 and the over two million people who come into the Central Business District daily for administrative, educational, industrial and commercial reasons.

The ceremony was attended by members of the GCB Board and Management.
