Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - The Ghana Commercial Bank Limited (GCB) on Tuesday presented 20 computers and accessories valued at 46,600 dollars to the Ministry of Defence at ceremony in Burma Camp.
The computers and accessories are to help augment the capacity building plans of the Ghana Armed Forces computer Centre.
Making the presentation, Mrs Matilda Obeng Ansong, Managing Director of the Bank said it was showing appreciation for the healthy relationship that had existed between the two institutions over the years.
"We are very grateful to the military, which has accommodated our Bank at this camp and in fact helping us to acquire that special quality of your value of time and precision."
Receiving the items Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Minister of Defence, thanked the Bank for the gesture.
He said government had put in place the requisite policies aimed at improving the human resource development and capacity enhancement, hence the establishment the computer centre.
He said the use of the computers would enhance information flow through internal mailing systems.
"It is my intention to assist all ranks within the Ghana Armed Forces and civilian employees to acquire computer skills and capacities." Dr Addo Kufuor also appealed to other financial institutions and corporate bodies to help with more computers since the Centre needed 135 and the Ministry also require 115.
