Accra, March 30, GNA - Mr John Amekah, General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has announced his decision to contest the parliamentary seat for the newly created Weija Constituency on the ticket of the party. Mr Amekah who was the first Assembly member of the Weija Electoral Area told the GNA in an interview in Accra on Tuesday that he had the conviction that he was capable of assisting the people to improve their lot since he had gained much experience as an assembly member. He said it was his aim to create a platform for open discussions on national and community issues so that collectively they could share ideas as to how to solve problems facing the communities.

The General Secretary said he believed there were many people in the area that might have ideas, which could help to find solutions to the social, economic and political problems in the area. On developmental projects, Mr Amekah said he would work hand in hand with the Assembly members as well as involve the District Assembly, the Government and non-governmental organisations to mobilise the people towards the development of the new constituency.

Mr Amekah said his priority would be to work hard to unite the diverse ethnic groups in the area so that they could collectively support their development programmes.

The aspiring parliamentarian said he had served the people of Bortianor, Mallam, Gbawe, Weija and Ngleshie Amanfro in his capacity as assembly member and a teacher over the years and that when given the nod he would ensure a continuous service to the people and the various communities. He appealed to the chiefs and people of the various communities in the constituency to give him the opportunity to serve their interest and to see him as their kith and kin who was abreast with the problems and needs of the area.
