GCPP will go it alone - Lartey

THE leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Comrade Dan Lartey has reiterated that the party will never under any circumstance join forces with any Nkrumaist political organisation to contest the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“Considering the inconsistency, bickering and slandering that have rocked the Nkrumaist front since 1992 , the GCPP wishes to state now and again that it will go it alone to contest the next polls,” Comrade Lartey said. Comrade Lartey who said this in an interview in Accra, pointed out that while the Nkrumaist parties are planning for unity talks, the GCPP is already in the field canvassing for support in its bid to fight and win the next general elections.

“The national executive of the party will not waste its precious time and energy to sit at table with the leadership of other Nkrumaist parties whose intention are not clear and straightforward to forge a united bloc of Nkrumaist forces to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2004 elections,” he said.

The GCPP leader said with only about 14 months left for the conduct of the next polls, the party is bent on building a solid support base that will enable it to clinch total victory to form the next government in January 2005.

Comrade Lartey said effective structures for the development of a party take quite some pretty time to build and , therefore, the GCPP is at the moment concentrating on that aspect in its scheme of activities to rebuild a formidable machinery for the polls.

“The GCPP has reasonable goodwill among a sizeable proportion of the electorate and this is what we are building upon to encourage voters to give us their mandate to properly manage the country after 2004, “ he said.

Comrade Lartey said pursuing again the issue of unity talks with the Nkrumaist parties will divert the party’s attention from engaging in activities that will enable it to register a profound impact in the 2004 elections.

He said the GCPP will definitely win the next elections and turn around the material conditions of the broad masses of the party, who according to him are smarting under poverty.
