Accra, Jan. 23, GNA - The Ghana Education Service (GES) Council has appointed Ms Benedicta Naana Biney as the new Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The appointment, which was made in consultation with Public Services Commission, takes effect from February 1, 2007. Until her appointment Ms Biney was the District Director of Education at the Sefwi Wiawso District of the Ghana Education Service, a press release signed by Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister of Education; Science and Sports, said on Tuesday.
It said Ms Biney brings to her new position a rich hand-on-managerial and professional experience relevant at a time that decentralization of education management was the main focus of the educational reform.
Ms Biney holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education Management from the University of Cape Coast.
She attended the Archbishop Porter Girls' Secondary School; Fosu Training College and the then Specialist Training College at Winneba. On the field of teaching, Ms Biney was the Assistant Headmistress of the Archbishop Porter Girls' Secondary School between 1993 and 1996 and was the Headmistress of Shama Senior School from 1997 to 2003. In May 2003, she was made head of the Sefwi-Wiawso District Education Service and later given an oversight responsibility for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso Bekwai District.
Ms Biney has attended various management development programmes and has participated in workshops and training both in Ghana and abroad. She was a member of Ghana's delegation that toured Asia in July 2006, and she also participated in the World Education Forum. She was a delegate to the Biennial Meeting of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) held in Gabon.
