Accra, March 31, GNA - The Ghana Education Service (GES) has shifted the vacation and reopening dates for the second and third terms of all basic schools for the 2010/2011 academic year by one week. The new vacation date for the second term has been brought forward from April 14, 2011 to April 7, 2011 while the reopening date for the third term has been brought forward from May 10, 2011 to May 3, 2011. A statement signed by Mr Charles Parker-Allottey, Head of Public Relations of GES, said this was because most basic school teachers had been recruited to supervise/invigilate the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) 2011. In addition, some basic schools' classrooms, especially, in the urban areas would be used as centres for the examinations. "To ensure uninterrupted instructional hours, the Ghana Education Service management is kindly entreating the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education to ensure that schools comply with the directives," the statement said.
