GES dismisses claims of food poisoning in New Juabeng SHS

The Ghana Education Service in the Eastern region has dismissed claims that some female students of New Juabeng Senior High School have been admitted in various hospitals due to food poisoning.

Female students in New Juabeng Senior High School were on admission in various hospitals in the Eastern region for food poisoning.

But reacting to the report, the Eastern region Ghana education service PRO, Emmanuel Acheampong dismissed the reports of food poisoning but claimed the students were affected psychologically.

“It is believed that it is a psychological thing so it hasn’t been that it is food poisoning or an outbreak or something. We have done the counselling and everyone is in school having normal classes [and] a few of them that were rushed to the hospital are stable now and they will join their friends soon to learn,” Acheampong said.

He added: “So it isn’t that there is an outbreak of disease or food poisoning but it’s psychological that could have risen out of fear or panic or what they have seen or something and that is a similar thing that happened so we worked on it if it was food poisoning the boys would have been affected as well, but this is just the girls so it can’t be food poisoning”.

Headmaster of the school, Frank Obeng Wilson has indicated that students who were admitted will join their colleagues for academic work to continue.

“The students who were admitted will join their colleagues in school immediately they are discharged for academic work to continue. Out of the fourteen admitted, ten have been discharged and the rest will join later. There is no course for alarm because things are in control.”

Meanwhile, mynewsgh source in the school have said some female students fainted while others also complained of severe stomach ache and had to be rushed to the ST. Joseph hospital and some also sent to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
