GES hold a day's seminar on CSSPS for educationists

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 18, GNA - The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education has organized a day's workshop for 98 participants aimed at educating them on the importance of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) arranged for final year junior secondary school (JSS) students.

The participants included headmasters, guidance and counselling coordinators and circuit supervisors drawn from the Nkoranza District. In an address read on his behalf by the District Assistant Director in-charge of administration and finance, Reverend Kubi Asuamah Yeboah, the District Director of Education, Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu urged teachers to create a congenial learning environment for their students to enable them improve upon their performance.

Mr Agyemang-Badu also emphasized the need for circuit supervisors and school guidance and counselling coordinators to visit schools and assist teachers to keep accurate and true records on their students' performances as a way to guide them to choose the right programmes to continue their education at the senior school schools level.

He stressed the need for headmasters to involve parents when choosing programmes for their wards and advised headmasters to organize Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings and educate parents on the relevance of the CSSPS

Mr John Kofi Amoah, Nkoranza District Basic Education Officer explained that the new system would go a long way to address problems and difficulties that cropped up every year during the selection of candidates into SSS.

Mr Amoah said the system would also prevent parents from frustrations and anxieties they go through, while moving from school to school in search of admission for their wards.

The CSSPS would also save the Government from the over 850 million cedis huge amount she spends on the selection exercise annually. Additionally, the system, when it becomes operational, would promote efficiency, transparency, simplicity and speed as well as fairness and equity among students who would perform well in the BECE, Mr Amoah said and expressed his appreciation of the efforts of the Government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) in introducing the system
