Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed that school activities at the Experimental D/A School in Accra New Town be suspended until further notice.
The directive was issued as a critical preventative measure to mitigate further risk while authorities conduct a comprehensive forensic audit.
The investigation aims to pinpoint the cause of the failure and assess the structural integrity of neighboring buildings to ensure no immediate threat remains to the students and residents.
During an interview with Citi News on Monday, March 30, 2026, after meeting with security officials at the scene, the Director-General of GES, Ernest Kofi Davis, stated that immediate steps are being taken to address the situation assuring that the safety of students and staff members remains the top priority.

He also revealed that GES will soon hold a meeting involving key stakeholders to decide the way forward, including working closely with both regional and national teams to assess the condition of the remaining buildings on the school compound.
“We are going to work with the regional and the national team, so, we will work with the estate department to ensure that the other structure is indeed fit for that purpose. If they are not, we will advise the students not to go into such areas,” Davis said.
The tragic incident has reportedly claimed three (3) lives and have left twenty (20) others with varying degrees of injuries.
The issue has shaken families, students, and the wider community, raising urgent concerns about the safety of the nearby school building.
