GETFund provides 600 million-cedi school block at Mmamriwa

Obuasi, April 16, GNA - A 600 million-cedi school block built to replace the dilapidated Mmamriwa Methodist primary near Obuasi has been inaugurated.

The block, made up of six-classrooms, office and store, staff common room, a library and toilet facility, was funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly contributing 170 million cedis.

Mr Joseph K. Boampong, the acting Municipal Chief Executive who inaugurated the project, said the assembly was constructing teachers' quarters to end the practice of teachers commuting to and from Obuasi to attend school.

He gave the assurance that the area would be connected to the national grid by the end of the year.

Mr Boampong said the next four years of Kufuor administration would bring much development to the communities.

He urged parents to ensure that their wards attended school and also took their studies seriously so that they could contribute to the human resource base of the country.

Mr Edward Ennin, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi, asked the people to take good care of the school building so that more children could benefit from it.

He announced that he would collaborate with the assembly to improve the development of the communities in the area. Mr Francis Kanbi, the assemblyman for the area, pleaded with the assembly for a new junior secondary school block.

He appealed to the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and also take good care of their lives in order not to contract the HIV/AIDS.

Nana Kwabena Ponko II, Dompoase Abadiekyirehene, who presided expressed concern about indiscipline amongst school children and urged all stakeholders to help in addressing it.
