The owner of Elmina Sharks Football Club, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has called for a total overhaul of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following government’s notice to dissolve the Association.

Government served notice to dissolve the GFA following the uncovering of massive rot in the Association by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his Number 12 undercover documentary, which, among other things, captured GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, referees and some officials of the National Sports Authority taking bribes.

The GFA has subsequently set-up a five-member team to meet government for a resolution of the current impasse as well as draw up a programme for lasting reforms, but, Dr Nduom believes some people are using this as an advantage to lobby for GFA positions.

In his opinion the entire GFA should be reconstituted.

In a Facebook post, Dr Nduom whose conglomerate once sponsored the Ghana Premier League said: “This is not the time to lobby government or the clubs for GFA positions. Those going around and making attempts to form interim GFA executive committees must stop. The problems faced by football in Ghana did not end with the resignation of Kwesi Nyantakyi. We need a complete overhaul and perhaps a whole new organisation altogether!”

Mr Nyantakyi has resigned as a result of the scandal while government has issued a directive that all officials captured in the corrupt practices should be referred to the police for further investigation and appropriate action.
