GFD praises government for hiring PwDs

The Ghana Federation of the Disabled (GFD) has commended government for employing Persons with Disability (PwDs) to manage toll booths across the country.

Last week, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia revealed that the Ministry of Roads and Highways had introduced a policy to employ more PwDs to man the toll booths across the country.

Accordingly, the ministry has unveiled some PwDs who have started working at such facilities.

The Minster of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, told journalists: “The Ghana Highway Authority gave them training. There is a structured training programme in place. You don’t just pick people and put them in the toll booths, no. They have undergone almost three to four months of vigorous training, they have been tested. That is why they are so efficient.”

Commending the government over such an action, the President of the GFD, Yaw Ofori Debrah, said: “We hope that this will not just be a political action, but the Ministry of Roads and Highways will come out with an MoU so that we will have something laid down to be followed by successive ministers and governments.

“We are appealing to the PwDs that they should work with utmost honesty, they should also work to increase the returns so that more people of their kind will be taken on board.”
