GH¢742 Billion Public Debt: Show me one district hospital you have built in 7 years – Sammy Gyamfi tackles NPP

The National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized the ruling government for overseeing Ghana’s public debt escalate from GH¢120 billion to GH¢742 billion in 7 years.

Reacting to the mid-year budget review presented by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam on July 23, Sammy Gyamfi expressed disbelief over how Dr. Bawumia, who was touted as an economist, supervised the current state of affairs.

On the July 25th edition of Metro TV’s GoodMorning Ghana, Sammy Gyamfi, appearing as a guest, criticized NPP’s Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Adomako Kissi, and the government for failing to construct a single district hospital despite the massive increase in public debt.

“Today the debt is GH¢742bn on a cash basis… GH¢742bn is no joke. This is about the future of future generations. You came and met a public debt of GHC120bn, you said it was too much. ‘We were borrowing too much, yete sika so nso kom di yen, we don’t have to borrow for roads, all we need to do is to tow the roads and we will get money to build all the roads, the money is here, I’ve worked at the Bank of Ghana before’. I’m talking about Bawumia, the chronic liar.

“And today, under him as Chairman of the Economic Management team, the public debt is GH¢724bn. From GHC120 to GH¢742bn, you’ve added GH¢622bn to the public debt. You have borrowed so much money you don’t even have one district hospital started and completed.

“…John Mahama started Dodowa hospital in 4 years. Started, completed, commissioned, operationalized in 8 years, show me one hospital you have started and completed…”, he challenged his opponent.
