Koforidua, July 1, GNA- The Eastern Region branch of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA), has offered three-year free skill training for 120 girls in the region.
The girls were drawn from all the 17 districts in the region. The Eastern Regional chairman of GHABA, Mrs Joyce Lamptey, said the training of the 120 girls formed the first batch of the association's efforts to help provide employable skills to needy girls. She said some patriotic members of the association volunteered to train the girls free of charge to complement government's efforts. Mrs Lamptey indicated that apart from the GHABA internal standard test taken after the training course, the girls were also made to write an external professional examination of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to ensure that they had the desired recognition to meet the requirements of job market.
She advised them to study hard and sit for the City and Guilds external exams to further their professional competence. Mrs Lamptey reminded them of the duty they owe to the association by also contributing towards its success.
The Eastern Regional Deputy Co-ordinating Director, Mr S.A Bawa, who deputized for the Eastern Regional Minister, commended the association for its patriotism to the unemployed.
He asked it to support the newly trained girls to access bank loans or financial assistance from the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) and other funds to expand their businesses.
