GHANA PALAVER

Thu, 18 Sep 1997 Source: --

The Palaver reports that all government departments and state organisations, including the ministries, which fail to transfer their accounts from the Commercial Banks by tomorrow, will be creating a serious trouble for their workers - they won't be paid their September salaries. Under a screaming headline: "Ministries, others to move all accounts to BOG by tomorrow...Or lose September salaries". the Palaver quotes a source at the Accountant-General's Department that his has been made known to heads of all the departments and organisations concerned. The Palaver says as part of the measures to fight inflation, President Rawlings, when opening the recent National Economic Forum, announced the government's decision for all such accounts to be transferred to the Bank of Ghana. According to the paper the move is seen to be a stricter control on government expenditure. GRI
