The Ghanaian Times report on the 88th birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, First President of Ghana, is the lead story in the paper. Under the heading: "Nkrumah belonged to the world", the Times reports that two wreaths were laid yesterday to commemorate the 88th anniversary of Dr. Nkrumah, at the forecourt of Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra. The Times says in a tribute, Mr. Sergio Corrieri, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, said Dr. Nkrumah was a man who belonged frost to his motherland, Africa an beyond and his legacy belonged world-wide. Describing Dr. Nkrumah as a great man, he noted that the Osagyefo, one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), was right when he stated that only unity among exploited countries would help propel those nations forward. "Tema GES brings school heads to order", is the headline of another front page story in the Times. The paper says the Tema Municipal Schools Oversight Committee has directed headteachers of public schools to ensure that all fee proposals for the academic year are discussed with their parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and finally with School Management Committees (SMCs) before submission for approval. According to the Times, the directive was given in a circular issued by the acting Tema Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Gladys Kumadzro. The circular directed that until approval was given by the Oversight Committee through the Education Office, no school should impose any levy or infrastructural development fees. GRI

In another front page story, the Times reports that twelve more forex bureaux operating illegally in the Kumasi metropolis, have been closed down by officials of the Bank of Ghana (BOG) and the Kumasi Police. The receipt books were also seized. The affected forex bureaux are: Kyeswin, Garden City, Sweat Money, Lucky Man, Golden Cross and Alobar. The rest are: Sunshine, Peace and Love, Kesben, Great Provider, Glory Be To God and Kosag. The Times says four business and secretarial service centres which had registered as communication centres but were found operating as forex bureaux, were also closed down. They are: Kayad Communication Centre, Sunshine, S-Adams and Gold Link. GRI
