GHANAPAS calls an for an end to recent road carnage

Accra, Sept.01, GNA-The Ghana National Association of Passengers (GHANAPAS) has called on the intensification of road safety education as one of several options to reduce carnage on the roads.

In a statement issued by Freddie T.Caut-Pinto, National Executive Chairman of GHANAPAS to the Ghana News Agency said the avoidable carnage and maiming on our roads was unacceptable and entreated all passengers to fight such indiscipline.

The statement said:" a current case in point is the driver of the Metro Mass bus with registration number AS 6059-10 which occurred on 16th August, 2010 on the Tema and Aflao highway that claimed about nineteen lives".

It said such drivers in most cases escape unhurt or slightly bruised while passengers are ripped apart.

GHANAPAS is entreating all passengers to report recalcitrant drivers to the National Motor Traffic Unit (MTTU) Command stating the number of the vehicle, the owner's address, and the day and time of incidence.

The statement said all GHANAPAS regional co-coordinators must continue passenger education "as we as passengers are also kindly advised to be responsible and not urge drivers to speed because we are in a hurry".

GHANAPAS has called on all road transport organizations to educate their drivers so as to be circumspect in avoiding carnage on our roads.
