Tamale, Nov. 26, GNA - The Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO), on Thursday launched its 50th anniversary celebration with a call for the proper training of the youth, to obtain good human resource to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
The school established on 22nd January 1960, had produced numerous human resources who currently occupy strategic positions in the annals of the state including the Vice President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The anniversary launch which took place in Tamale attracted several individuals, especially old boys and girls, who came to grace the occasion on under the theme; "Secondary Education in Northern Ghana: The Role of GHANASCO at 50".
Mrs. Mary Asobayire Dan-Braimah, the Headmistress of the school, reminded parents that parental irresponsibility is only a postponed responsibility to be handled by the same parents at a later time, sometimes in a more shameful manner, adding that, "it is also a shifted responsibility to the society, when children grow into social misfits".
She urged parents to devote much time for their children to be able to shape them properly, to grow responsibly for the benefit of society. The Headmistress said GHANASCO like any macrocosm cannot exist in isolation but was ready to accommodate any institution within the rules of civil law and school regulations, to achieve set goals.
Mrs. Dan-Braimah commended the school's PTA for being of assistance to the school through the purchase of a Nissan Pick-up, the building of a six-unit classroom for some of the form twos and a dormitory that could accommodate 120 girls, thereby reducing congestion on accommodation. She however called for more support to carry out organizational activities, renovate buildings, increase student furniture in the classrooms and dormitories, a perimeter fence wall and an assembly hall. Mrs. Dan-Braimah also assured the general public that the gates and doors of the school were widely opened for innovations, suggestions, and contributions to forge the school ahead.
The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Moses Bukari Magbenga, told the students to be mindful that the ladder to success was discipline and hard work with determination, adding, "You should avoid absenteeism, substance abuse, sexual promiscuity, hooliganism and vandalism". He also entreated teachers to give off their best to nurture students to become proper and well trained adults, who would contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development. The out-dooring of the anniversary cloth, yielded thousands of Ghana cedis and Mr. Alhassan Adani, Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana who was the special guest of honour and unveiled the plague for the school. 27 Nov. 09
