Esiama (W/R), July 8, GNA - A GHC 13,000 community library facility has been commissioned at Esiama in the Ellembelle district. The library is christened after a school in the United States of America (USA) "Granville Saint Mary's" which stocked the library with assorted books. Commissioning the library, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, Mr Daniel K. Eshun, said quality education could be achieved by investing in the youth through the culture of reading. He noted that libraries provide excellent reference point for societ y and thanked the US partners for their immense contribution towards the completion of the project. Mr Eshun said the facility begun with the former MP for Ellembelle, Mr Freddie Blay, but the instrumentation of the current MP, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah the project would not have been completed. He revealed that books and shelves in the library came through the benevolence of the US partners under the leadership of Mrs. Diane Snyder of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Resources Project Group. Mr Eshun urged the Esiama community to patronise and maintain the facility to sharpen their literacy skills.

Mrs Snyder said the donation of books to the library formed part of her visit to the district in 2000 when she found out that most of the schools in the district lacked books for research purposes. She revealed that the library was stocked with 4,500 books, which comprised English, History, Physics books among others, and that 1,500 ot her books for teachers were included. Mrs. Snyder said the group would hand over an in-built DVD Projector

that came along with the library materials, to show educative movies to children in the area.
