A flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah has begun soliciting funds publicly to pay the GHS420,000 nomination and filing fee demanded by his party ahead of 19 January 2019 presidential polls.

Dr. Spio Garbrah is expected to raise this huge amount before December 14, 2018, failure to do so will make him ineligible for the contest.

All male flagbearer hopefuls are to pay GHS400,000 as filing fee in addition to the GHS20,000 nomination form.

The party took the decision at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, 29 November at its headquarters in Accra. According to the party, all aspirants have 10 days to submit their properly filled forms.

Since the NEC of the party announced this fee, 12 other presidential candidates have been speaking against it and described it as outrageous but it seems the former President John Mahama is okay with the filing fee, he is the only candidate who has kept mute on it.

Earlier on, Dr. Spio Garbrah disagreed with the NEC's decision and went ahead to say that the NDC party is not for sale but in an exclusive interview, he pledged his total commitment to contest in the upcoming presidential primaries slated for January 19, 2020 and reaffirmed his promise to beat former President John Mahama who has been tipped by some political pundits as a winner of the race.

To support the Spio Garbrah campaign, donors are to dial *713*9867*Amount# on all mobile telecommunication networks or visit www.spiogarbrah.org.

Dr. Spio Garbrah posted "Please support Spio. An experienced, competent, unifying leader with integrity and the ability to re-brand the NDC for victory in 2020".

He added "To arrange a confidential discussion with Ekow Spio-Garbarah please call 0553816699".

So far two presidential candidates have come out publicly to raise funds to contest, the first candidate was Prof. Joshua Alabi.

According to reports, more names are yet to also to come out in the same way to raise funds to file.
