The governing Council of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has rubbished claims in the media that the Rector of the Institution has been asked to proceed on leave over procurement infractions and academic integrity.

A rejoinder to the said publications addressed to GhanaWeb and signed by Registrar of the School and Secretary to the Council says the school's Rector is only taking his annual leave and is expected to return to his post on Thursday, February 1, 2018.

According to the rejoinder, "Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah, the Rector voluntarily notified his management team and chairman of Council of his intention to take part of his annual leave from Wednesday, 27th December, 2017 and to resume duty on Thursday, 1st February, 2018."

This is contrary to earlier media reports suggesting the school's Rector had been asked to 'proceed on leave' to allow for investigations into a number of allegations leveled against him and other management members.

Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah according to earlier reports had been asked to proceed on leave over alleged procurement infractions and academic integrity. He, together with some management members were allegedly being investigated over “academic integrity and any other matters", a story by Starrfmonline read.

But the school has come out to clarify the situation saying the GIJ Rector voluntarily requested to take part of his annual leave in December this year. The move by the rector, the statement says, "...is to allow for a smooth investigation of some concerns raised including academic infractions and procurement practices".

The statement adds that the Rector is not being investigated for indulging in procurement infractions or academic dishonesty.

"It must also be noted that, nowhere in the statement setting-up an investigative committee was the Rector accused of indulging in procurement infractions or academic dishonesty."
