Breman Asikuma (Central Region), 15 Sept.,

Breman Asikuma (Central Region), 15 Sept., The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is to organise training courses for the staff of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education to sharpen their skills. This was announced by the Central Regional Co-ordinator of the division, Mr. Osei Piesie Anto, at a meeting of district organisers at Breman Asikuma yesterday. He urged facilitators and supervisors to take advantage of the courses to upgrade their knowledge. Mr. Piesie Anto deplored the attitude of some district directors of education and managers of schools who have been taking out the names of teachers on secondment to the NFED from their pay rolls. He said such attitude will undermine the success of the functional literacy programme and appealed to the Director-General of Ghana Education Service to arrest the situation. Mr. Piesie Anto called on district assemblies, non-governmental organisations, religious groups and individuals to help sustain the programme when World Bank sponsorship of the programme ends in to June 1998. The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district co-ordinating director, Mr. Guy Siilo, stressed on the importance of the literacy programme in enhancing the democratic process and urged the staff to be committed to their work. Miss Grace Dadson District Organiser of the Division said her outfit is being ejected from the Relay Station of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation which serves as the district office and appealed to the district assembly and the community for an alternative office accommodation.
