The Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration in charge of Command Post and Operations, Faisal Disu, has called on officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to uphold discipline, professionalism, and commitment as Ghana prepares to roll out its new electronic visa (e-visa) system.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day training session in Accra for 40 immigration officers ahead of the nationwide implementation of the system on May 25, 2026, Disu described the initiative as a transformative step in border management.

In a statement dated May 20, 2026, he urged officers to embrace the transition with a strong sense of responsibility, stressing the importance of integrity in handling the digital platform.

“This is a new way of working, anchored on transparency and accountability,” Disu said, adding that officers must ensure data protection remains a core responsibility in the execution of their duties.

According to him, the e-visa platform will generate traveller information critical to national security, economic planning, intelligence cooperation, and international collaboration.

“Accuracy, security, and the responsible use of data are non-negotiable,” he stated.

The training programme, which brought together personnel from immigration control points across the country, is aimed at preparing officers for the transition to a fully digital visa platform that will allow foreign nationals seeking entry into Ghana to complete visa applications online.

The new system is expected to improve accessibility, enhance passenger processing, and strengthen security controls at the country’s borders.

Disu further noted that the platform would serve as the first point of contact between foreign visitors and Ghana, making professionalism key to promoting a positive national image.

“A transparent and user-friendly system will enhance Ghana’s image and attract tourism, business, and investment,” he said.

He also reaffirmed GIS management’s commitment to continuous capacity building, system upgrades, and operational support, warning that breaches of integrity and accountability standards would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law and service regulations.

Participants in the training are expected to undergo sessions on system workflow, monitoring procedures, document verification checklists, and online payment processes.
