The objective of the sensitization forms part of the Command's visibility initiative to project the image of the Service in the Region and get more closer to its stakeholders.
This is in line with the GIS New 5-Year Strategic Plan 2018-2022. In view of this and under the directives of the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Kwadade, the Public Relations Unit of the Command visited the Spiritan University in Ejisu to sensitize students on the core functions of the GIS, threw more light on the responsibilities of foreigners living, studying, working or touring in Ghana to begin its encounter with tertiary schools in the Region.
This was because there are more international students also studying in this university.
The PRO for the GIS in the Region, ASI Gifty Amgborme explained to the students roles they are to play as far as their stay to study in Ghana was concerned.
The students were also provided information on the meaning and dangers involved in human smuggling, human trafficking, drug trafficking, cyber crime, money laundering, armed robbery, prostitution and other illicit activities of some foreginers in the country.
She emphasized that, the GIS in the Command is available for all non-Ghanaians to freely walk into any of their district offices to regularise their stay. The Command would not intentionally want to remove foreigners without any basic justification.
On the contrary, Ghana is a free tourism country with an open hospitable citizens yearning for more development and the Command was there to serve their needs in relation to processing their documentations for legal stay and employment or others.
She stressed however that, the Command would only implement stringent measures when it observes after investigations that non-Ghanaians or foreigners are not adhering to fulfilling the terms and conditions of visas that gave them the opportunity to enter or stay in Ghana.
Supt. Mohammed Manan of the Enforcement and Intelligence Unit in the Command called on the students to inform the Command whenever their permits expire on time to prevent inconvenience situations.
He urged them to freely open up to GIS and provide information since Officers were always ready to work on their behalf.
Some students shared their impressions after the program and called for such education to be replicated across all schools in the Region.
They commended the Command that it was a good move to be visible and to be closer to them to clarify all percieved difficult questions.
