The Ethics Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is to take up the issue of a $150,000 alleged bribery scandal against a senior journalist in Ghana at one of its regular meetings on Wednesday.

The General Secretary of the GJA. Mr Bright Blewu disclosed to Peace fm on Wednesday that, journalists from the ‘Accra Daily Mail” and the “Daily Guide” which have so far published the story, shall be invited, to clear themselves. Mr Bright Blewu said, though Baby Ansaba of the Daily Guide has not substantiated the story with facts, and Haruna Attah of the Accra Daily Mail, the GJA would need their cooperation to get to the bottom of the matter. He however stated that, the fact that the story is not comprehensive due to the absence of facts does not mean it should not be investigated by the GJA.

Meanwhile, some senior journalists who spoke to Peace fm on the same issue welcome the step taken by the Ethics Committee of the GJA. The Editor of the “Crusading Guide”, Kwaku Baako Jnr. Condemned the outright condemnation of the story by some media practitioners, who described the article as incomprehensive, adding that, it is an accepted way to write an article and withhold the source of the information as well as the names of the persons involved.

The Editor of the “Accra Daily Mail” Alhaji Haruna Attah noted that, the import of the story is to bring journalists under the same scrutiny they subject politicians and businessmen to Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr. Of “The Insight” initially supported the decision by the GJA Ethics Committee to take the matter up, at its meeting today, but he however became furious, when the host of the Morning Show on Peace fm, Kwame Sefa Kayi hinted that, Mr Kwesi Pratt’s name has been mentioned as the beneficiary of the $150,000 alleged bribery scandal.
