GJA: We will pursue assault case till justice is served

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has expressed disappointment at the justification of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in relation to the soldiers who assaulted some journalists in the line of duty.

The journalists were allegedly assaulted by military men in their attempts to take photographs of President John Mahama during the Independence Day celebrations at the independence Square this year.

Following this incident, the GAF were tasked to conduct investigations into the issue. After completing with their investigations they (GAF) concluded that the soldiers did nothing wrong and that the journalists were not assaulted.

Speaking in an interview on Peace News, outgoing President of GJA, Ransford Tetteh, said the GAF in their investigations should have listened to the side of the journalists before drawing conclusions.

“We were very surprised at the news because we thought they will listen to the two sides before making any judgement. The victims were not even called for any interview. It is a worrying situation that their conclusion indicates that the soldiers did nothing wrong,” he asserted.

According to him, the association will not just let the case die, “because we have laws and regulations in this country and we will pursue the case to the latter”.
