The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has served notice it will soon commence legal action to seek redress on behalf of journalists who have been laid off by management of some Ghanaian Media houses mainly over issues of financial constraints.
Several media organisations in recent times have embarked on retrenchment exercise due to their inability to pay staff.
Although it is not clear what the GJA will be seeking in court, it's President, Affail Monney, told Class News the Association in collaboration with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) is ready to trigger the legal processes once it is done compiling the list of aggrieved journalists who are willing to make their cases heard.
He said: “With regards to the job losses which has affected our members, the GJA which is affiliated to the TUC has alerted the TUC leadership and so members who want their issues which include unfair treatment [by their employers] to being addressed, the TUC has a team of lawyers on standby to pursue their case and make sure at the end of it all, the affected workers will not be shortchanged.”
