GMA appeals to government to pay NHIA debt

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has noted with great concern and worry of government’s failure to pay health facilities (Public and Private Hospitals) for National Health Insurance Services (NHIS) rendered from March 2019 to date. Mypurefmonline.com reports.

The association in a paged document signed by its President, Dr. Frank Ankobea cited by Mypurefmonline.com has appealed to government as a matter of urgency to settle all monies owed these facilities to forestall a possible cash and carry mode of payment and to also ensure that Health Insurance Service holders get all the health services and benefits of the policy.

The document in part reads “The introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as a social intervention in our health care financing has come a long way to improve the general well-being and health care seeking behavior of Ghanaians.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has noted with great concern the failure of the NHIA to pay health facilities (Public and Private Hospitals) for services rendered from on or about March, 2019 to date, resulting in some providers threatening to withdraw services to national health insurance card holders.

The GMA calls on Government and NHIA to as a matter of urgency pay all monies owed these facilities with immediate effect.

This will ensure that 1. The health facilities are not forced to intimate cash and carry as a mode of payment in the quest to ensure continuous service delivery as well as to forestall their collapse. 2. The Health Insurance Policy holders also get health services and benefits of the policy.
