GNA to be adequately resourced

Kumasi April 13, GNA-Mr Dan Botwe, Minister of Information, has reiterated that he would personal be committed to ensuring that the Ghana News Agency (GNA) was adequately resourced for optimal performance.

He said: "I am very much aware of the operational problems of the Agency. It is totally unacceptable and certainly cannot be allowed to continue. We are determined to improve the situation".

Mr Botwe who was speaking when he paid a visit to the Kumasi Office of the GNA as part of his official tour of departments and organisations under the Ministry in the Ashanti Region, said he meant every promise made and that "this is no political talk".

He had earlier visited the regional offices of some media organisations including the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, New Times Corporation, Graphic Communications Group Limited and Abura Printing Press, publishers of the Pioneer.

Mr Botwe praised the GNA workers for working assiduously in the face of difficulties and encouraged them to remain undeterred. He said it was only when government provided the necessary equipment that it could demand high performance from the Agency.

The Minister will launch the Twi version of the President's State of the Nation's address as part of the Ashanti Regional and Kumasi Metropolitan People's Forum at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.

Mrs Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu, acting Regional Manager of the GNA, said, "we have followed closely and keenly the enthusiasm you have shown in the GNA and would want to believe that your promises are going to be redeemed".
