GNAT Calls For Honest BECE Examination Conduct

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called for honesty from candidates who would write this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as well as the officials who would be conducting the examination.

"It is our prayer that our teachers who will be performing various assignments in relation to the examination will do so with much honesty, dedication and diligence so that for once we shall have a trouble -free examination", GNAT said.

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra yesterday (Friday) by the association and signed by GNAT General Secretary, Mrs. Irene Duncan-Adanusa to wish candidates success in the examinations. The statement implored other officials who would operate in whatever capacity during the examinations to seriously consider the implications of their conduct on the candidates.

The statement also called on parents and guardians of the candidates not to encourage, but rather sternly admonish them against engaging in acts that would mar the conduct of the examinations as well as their future. It said any unethical conduct would jeopardize the educational endeavours of Ghana's future leaders.

The statement said it was necessary that as a nation, the people lived above reproach, so far as activities relating to the conduct of examinations were concerned. It said the examination authorities themselves had done enough to plug any loop-hole that would enable questionable characters have a field day. "It is only through the vigilance of all stakeholders that we can develop confidence in our national examination system right from the grassroots and uplift the image of Ghana as a credible member of the WAEC", the statement said.
