Encroachers residing on the land of GNFS have been asked to vacate within a month
The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions Fire Command has given encroachers a one-month ultimatum to vacate its land at the Sunyani main garage site for work to resume on the construction of its headquarters or face forceful eviction.
Works on the two-storey building was abandoned in 1996 due to lack of funds, but the Command said it had received funding from the government to resume work on the project.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Heroine Sekyere Boakye, the Regional Fire Commander said her outfit had issued eviction notice to the occupants, mainly artisans and mechanics and reminded them to vacate the land as the ultimatum which commenced on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 would not be extended.
She commended the government for releasing funds for the project, and expressed the hope that all things being equal, it would be completed by October, this year.
ACFO Boakye expressed regret that some of the unlawful occupants had resisted vacating the site, a situation which was making work difficult for the construction firm, and warned them to move away or face the wrath of the Command.
She announced that the Service would raze down all unauthorised structures on the land by the end of this month (May) and therefore warned the occupants to relocate as soon as possible.
Mr.Azobre Imoro Atare, the site engineer of SAMOTRUST Company Limited, an Accra-based building construction firm, said the project would be completed on schedule if only the occupants were evacuated.
He said the work was about 65 percent complete, but the existence of the squatters was slowing down the progress of it.
Mr.Agyei Marfo, the Architectural Engineering Services Limited (AESL)Consultant for the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions commended the construction firm for quality work being done and hoped that the project would be completed on schedule.
