GNFS holds first ever pulling-out ceremony for a retired officer

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has held a pulling-out ceremony for Dr Albert Brown Gaisie, the Former Chief Fire Officer.

The ceremony, which was the first in the history of the service, honoured the Former Officer who retired from active service after offering 29 years of his service to the nation.

Dr Gaisie, currently is the Nkabomhene of Duayaw Nkwanta with the title, "Okoforogya" which literally means "the one who fights to overcome fire", was enlisted into the GNFS as a cadet officer and graduated with the rank of Divisional Officer Grade II in 1989.

He served in various capacities in the Service over the years as a Regional Commander in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Eastern regions.

He was the Director of Rural Fires, Director, Research, Development and Monitoring, Operations Director and an Acting Chief Officer until his official appoint as the Chief Fire Officer in December 2014.

The GNFS awarded him with a citation and other gifts for his leadership qualities, tenacity of purpose and hard work exhibited for the growth of the service.

Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson, the Chief Fire Officer, speaking at the event congratulated his predecessor for his relentless efforts towards the growth of the service.

He said this was the first time a Chief Fire Officer was exiting with dignity and expressed gratitude to Dr Gaisie for all the innovations he brought to bear during his tenure of office.

Mr Henry Quartey, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, congratulated the Former Officer for his achievements over the years.

He urge all to seize every opportunity to demonstrate a high sense of loyalty, dedication and devotion to work towards the achievement of the various organizational objectives.

He said it was time for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, to have more cohesive and unified front to enable them forge ahead as a more united Service ready to deliver world class service to the good people of Ghana.

The Deputy Minister noted that the President was committed to proving the needed resources and logistics to the GNFS to enable them carry out your mandate in a professional manner.

"I therefore wish to call on all, especially the Officers and Men of the Ghana National Fire Service to remain focused and eschew resorting to the media with your grievances instead of using laid down channels," he stated.

Dr Albert Brown Gaisie expressed his profound appreciation for the honour done him by management of the service.

He said the fire service job was an act of science and engineering, tactical and strategic discipline and urged fire men to be disciplined to enable them carry out their duties.

Dr Gaisie advised fire personnel to demystify the culture of seeing one as a monster after retirement but rather tap into their experiences to improve themselves.

He urged fire officers to be mindful of the attitudes they put out in public as it could make and unmake them
