The Central Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Chief Fire (ACFO) Officer Funny Simpson has expressed concern about the persistent attack on personnel who report late to quench fire outbreaks.
According to the Assistant Chief Officer, it was unfortunate that some residents run out of patience and take the law into their hands to harass GNFS personnel or vandalise fire tenders.
ACFO Simpson made this known to journalists when she visited Gomoa Buduburam and Winneba stations, after mob attack on the personnel of the Service when fire gutted five shops at Gomoa Buduburam camp.
The residents went on a rampage.
The mob insulted and vandalised the fire tender, rendering it dysfunctional and the police had to intervene to prevent any nasty scene.
ACFO Simpson called for co-operation and mutual understanding between the citizenry and Fire personnel.
She said the personnel were working with vehicles and anything at all could happen, whilst on their way to the line of duty including traffic congestions on the highways and it was their responsibility to ensure the safety of lives and property.
ACFO Simpson said the cause of the fire was being investigated, although the preliminary report could be attributed to electrical fault.
