Accra, Sept. 18, GNA - Mr Douglas Ansong-Gyan, Press and Information Officer of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students has been "impeached".
A statement signed by Mr Jacob Amoako, Co-ordinating Secretary of GNUPS in Accra on Thursday said the decision was taken at the just ended delegates' congress held in Sunyani.
It accused Mr Ansong-Gyan of financial malfeasance while serving as the Student Representative Council President of Ho Polytechnic in the year 2001/2002.
The statement said an Audit Report submitted to the National Executive Committee of GNUPS revealed that Mr Ansong-Gyan took a personal loan of 2.9 million cedis and has since not effected any payment.
"He is also charged with approving loans to the tune of seven million cedis to some friends," the statement said.
GNUPS further asked the SRC Executives of Ho Polytechnic to use any legal means possible to retrieve the monies.
The statement explained that the decision had been taken without any prejudice but rather "an attempt to instil discipline and circumspection in all officers."
The statement did not explain the form the impeachment would take.
