GOVERNMENT IS TACKLING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS WITH VIGOUR

– SAYS PRESIDENT OF THE VOLTA REGIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS

Togbega Gabusu VI, Fiaga of GBI traditional area and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs has said in London that the government is tackling development projects in Ghana with the necessary vigour.

Addressing this year’s celebration of Hogbetsotso Cultural Festival 2002, organised by the NOVI HA (UK), Togbega Gabusu urged Ghanaians who have acquired skills and completed their courses to return home to assist in the development of the country.

The colourful event was interspersed with the unveiling of “mekpli”, pouring of libation and dramatic exposition of the flight of Anlos from the tyranical rule of King Agokoli. The Guest of Honour for the event was H.E. Mr Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK. Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were, Togbega Tenge Dzokoto Gligui IV, Fiaga of North Anlo Traditional Area, Mama Miedoafe II, Nyonufiaga of Anlo Traditional Area, Mr K. Baah-Duodu, Deputy High Commissioner and Mr B.B.K. Ayivor, President of Novi Ha UK.

Touching on some of the achievements of the Kufuor Administration, Togbega mentioned the development of poverty reduction and alleviation strategies, the President’s cassava and textiles initiatives, the introduction of large passenger buses and the gradual improvement in logistics for the Ghana Police Force, as some of the measures to bring sanity into the system.

He was delighted that work on the Keta Sea Defence was progressing steadily and was equally ecstatic about government’s determination to ensure that majority of Ghanaians become computer literate.

Togbega highlighted the investment opportunities in the country including the Volta Region and urged Ghanaians to explore all avenues in the UK to encourage investors to invest in the tourist attractions of the Volta Region, many of which he enumerated.

In his remarks, Mr Ayivor thanked members for their dedication, support and understanding which had led to strengthen relations among members.

He pledged that in line with the wishes of the founding fathers, Novi Ha UK would continue to foster good relations among members, promote understanding and provide social and welfare support for members while making specific contributions to help develop the Volta Region.

During a courtesy call on the High Commissioner, Togbega Gabusu thanked H.E. Mr Isaac Osei for the warm reception accorded his delegation since their arrival in London about a week ago. He said the willingness of diplomatic staff of the High Commission to assist members of the delegation whenever they were called upon to do so was a testimony to the spirit of positive change blowing in Ghana.

Replying, the High Commissioner, Mr Isaac Osei thanked Togbega Gabusu for attending the Hogbetsotso festival despite his busy commitments back home and added that his presence together with other members of his delegation, no doubt, added colour and gaiety to the celebration.

Mr Osei stressed that Togbega Gabusu’s appeal to Ghanaians abroad to help encourage investors to invest in various sectors of the economy was in consonance with the thinking of the government and urged Ghanaians abroad to source funding for the establishment of micro industries in various parts of the country.

He appealed to Togbega Gabusu to help ginger up and rekindle the spirit of voluntarism within his areas with the hope of galvanising the energies of the people for development.
