GPHA, GOIL donate towards coronavirus fight

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority continues to contribute its quota to areas within the Tema community to fight against the spread of the COVID-19.

GPHA has donated some veronica buckets to members of the fishing community who operate in the fishing harbour for them to have a decent handwashing facility for use in these times of coronavirus prevention.

The Ag. General Manager of the Tema Fishing Harbour, Ing. Kwadwo Asamoah, donating the items on behalf of the Port Authority encouraged members of the fishing community to adhere to the health protocols in their activities, due to the vulnerability their nature of work presents.

“Do ensure that they always use them to wash their hands to prevent the spread of covid-19 in the area,” he said.

The leadership of the fishing community promised to put the veronica buckets to good use while they observe all health protocols.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s foremost indigenous oil marketing company, GOIL, has demonstrated its commitment to continuing to assist frontline health officials deal with the coronavirus.

In addition to donations to the 37 Military Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Ashaiman Polyclinic, GOIL has donated some health and sanitary items to the Accra Police Hospital for use by its staff in the performance of duties during this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The items include 100 medical scrubs, 300 pieces of face masks, 100 pieces of bed sheets, 60 hand tissues, 200 pieces of medical gloves, 100 bottles of hand sanitizers, 5 veronica buckets and 15 gallons of liquid soap.

Group CEO and Managing Director of GOIL, Kwame Osei Prempeh, described the gesture as ‘GOIL modest contribution to the Police Hospital.

He said GOIL would take up the responsibility as an indigenous company to continue to come to the aid of Ghanaians anytime the need arises.

“GOIL is for Ghanaians, therefore, we will not hesitate to support any Ghanaian enterprise or institution,” he said.

The Medical Director of the Accra Police Hospital, Dr. Marian Tetteh-Korboe praised GOIL’s consistent contribution to the development of the Police Hospital over the years, and said the donated items would go a long way in the discharge of their duties during this COVID-19 era.

“At this time of Covid-19, you haven’t left us out and we really want to say a big thank you for the items. It is going to help us not only to protect the public but also ourselves who are in the frontline,” she said.
