GPRTU: Don't bring misery to homes through accidents

Accra, Dec 22, GNA - The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) on has appealed to drivers to be careful during the Christmas season and not to be involved in accidents. "Your passengers count on you to reach their destinations and return safely," a statement signed by Mr Fred Nana Yaw Manu, National Chairman of the Union, said in Accra.

"Let us resolve to be our brother's keeper in the transport industry."

The statement called on drivers to make sure that they did not bring misery to homes during the yuletide.

The Union urged drivers to avoid overloading and drinking of alcohol during Christmas and New Year season.

It also urged them to strictly adhere to the existing approved lorry fares during and after the festivities as an incentive to commuters throughout the country.

The GPRTU reminded its members that there was now stiff competition in the transport industry and they should therefore treat their customers with utmost care to win their confidence for the union to retain its position as the number one public transport operators in the country.

Mr Manu said there was the need for reconciliation in the transport sector to ensure smooth operations in the sector for better services to be rendered the public.
