GPRTU releases new transport fares

Accra, Feb 19, GNA - The Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council (GRTCC) on Friday announced new transport fares based on a 30 per cent increment, following a hike in fuel prices.

The differences between the new and old fares range between 4,000 cedis and 20,000 cedis for inter city commuters, while intra city travellers would pay between 500 cedis and 900 cedis more for taxis and 400 cedis and 600 cedis more for "tro-tro".

The new fare for Accra-Abetifi is now 17,000 cedis, up from to 13,000 cedis; Accra-Aflao (Urvan) from 30,000 cedis from 27,000 cedis; Accra-Tamale 85,000 cedis instead of 65,000 cedis.

On the Accra-Kumasi route, passengers travelling on '207' Benz buses will pay 26,000 cedis, up from 20,000 cedis, while those travelling on normal air-conditioned buses will now pay 39,000 cedis instead of 30,000 cedis. Commuters using air-conditioned luxury vehicles will pay 72,000 cedis, up from 55,000 cedis.

Travellers by Air-conditioned tourist vehicles to Kumasi from Accra will pay 65,000 cedis instead of 50,000 cedis while non air-conditioning vehicles plying the route will charge 33,000 cedis as against 25,000 cedis.

Accra-Takoradi (Benz Bus) will now attract 26,000 cedis instead of 20,000 cedis; Accra-Cape Coast (Benz Bus) 16,000 cedis instead of 12,000 cedis; Accra-Ho is now 22,000 cedis instead of 17,000 cedis; Accra-Koforidua (207 Benz) is now 11,000 cedis as against 8,500 cedis and (Urvan Bus) passengers will now pay 13,000 cedis, up from 10,000. Accra-Tarkwa is 34,000 cedis instead of 26,000 cedis; Accra-Techiman has been increased from 35,000 cedis to 46,000 cedis; Accra-Sunyani now attracts 46,000 cedis, from 35,000 cedis; Accra-Pepease is now 18,000 cedis instead of 14,000 cedis and Accra-Oda is 15,000 cedis as against 12,000 cedis.

Accra-Nkawkaw (Benz bus 38 seater) will now attract 16,000 cedis instead of 12,000 cedis while those travelling on mini bus will now pay 18,000 cedis instead of 14,000 cedis. Nkawkaw (min 3 seat) vehicles will now attract 22,000 cedis instead of 17,000 cedis.

Accra intra-city (tro-tro) fares are: Accra-Achimota 1,600 cedis instead of 1,200 cedis; Accra-Kaneshie 1,000 cedis instead of 800 cedis; Accra-Madina is now 2,000 cedis instead of 1,500 cedis; Accra-Circle 1,000 cedis instead of 800 cedis; Teshie-Tema is now 2,000 cedis instead of 1,500; and Accra-Adenta, 2,600 cedis instead of 2,000 cedis. Others are Accra-Awoshie, 2,600 cedis instead of 2,000 cedis; Accra-Dansoman is now 1,700 cedis instead of 1,300 cedis; Accra-Sakumono will now attract 2,300 cedis instead of 1,800 cedis; Accra-Sowutuom is now 2,000 cedis instead of 1,500 cedis; and Ofankor-Accra is 2,500 cedis instead of 2,000 cedis.

According to the new fuel prices, Premium Petrol now sells at 30,000 cedis per gallon, up from 20,000 cedis.

Kerosene is now 24,000 cedis from 17,500 cedis; LPG Gas has risen to 5,700 cedis per kilogram; Pre-mix from is now 21,000 cedis instead of 16,000 cedis a gallon while Gas Oil (Diesel) has been increased from 17,500 cedis per gallon to 26,500 cedis and Marine Gas oil from 16,000 to 21,000 cedis per gallon.
