With the objective to change the face of tax administration and ensure Ghana Revenue Authority has the best revenue administration in the world with simplified process, the GRA has introduced a new initiative dubbed Ghana Revenue Authority Enhancement and Transformation (GREAT)

This initiative aims at changing GRA’s system by simplifying revenue process and introducing innovations to enhance revenue mobilization to meet growing expenditure.

There are three pillars in this transformational process which include changing GRA systems to be comparable to the best revenue administration in the world, investing heavily in the training of GRA staff to build their capacity and also building a mindset of constant improvement through sourcing for ideas to change and improve GRA.

Speaking at the industry forum for the 100 top taxpayers on project “GREAT” the commissioner-General, Kofi Nti told CEO and CFO that GRA will henceforth go after tax evaders with full application of tax laws.

“As the cream of the nation’s taxpayer public, we deem it important to apprise you of new initiative arising from the project, GRA could potentially collect more taxes than its doing. In other words, GRA could do better than it is doing presently and should be rubbing shoulders with the best in Africa. There is therefore the need to significantly increase revenue mobilization to meet growing expenditure. But this can only be done with the cooperation of the public particularly you taxpayers at the Light Tax Officers because of the significant role you play in the domestic revenue mobilization”

“We wish to bring to your notice that the days of impunity about nom compliance with the laws are over. GRA will henceforth go after tax defaulters and evaders with the full application of the tax laws especially with the grace period granted through the tax amnesty having expired” he added`

GRA is embarking on this new initiative to a significant uplift in mobilization in two years. The new initiative also comprises of naming and shaming, full application and imposition of sanctions including prosecutions and distress actions.
