Samreboi (W/R), April 18, GNA - The Global Response Initiative (GRI), an NGO advocating on HIV/AIDS prevention, has donated some items worth 10 million cedis to the vulnerable and AIDS orphans at Samreboi in the Amenfi West District.

They include 12 hand sewing machines, school bags and exercise books. Miss Monica Arhin, project manager of GRI presented the items. Dr Teddy Avotri, Executive Director of GRI, said in an address read on his behalf that hospital admissions due to HIV/AIDS related conditions were increasing.

He said the number of pregnant women and adolescents affected by the disease as well as the number of children orphaned by the disease were also increasing.

Dr Avotri said research conducted by the Ghana Health Service and GRI revealed that a significant number of adolescents were HIV positive but were not aware.

He said the GRI, communities and other agencies in the Amenfi West District had teamed up to stop the disease from spreading in the area. Mr Isaac Numba, Amenfi West HIV/AIDS Focal Person, thanked the GRI for the donation.
